New Detroit. Old Detroit where do I fit in
As the daily toil goes on, Ground Zero destination Detroit MI, Highland Park and Hamtramck. As the resource race quickly turns into the rat race. Everyone is trying to find their exact place. The struggles of the poor the struggles of the well to do, the question becomes what is new, what is true, what needs to stay and what needs to be replaced. The rainbow of smiling faces in a hurry to get to all the different places within the city scape. Hold up, wait a min what did I say what did I do what else is required to get through to my next destination. Gentrification is a philosophy and ritual that’s not easily understood but has a presence in every hood. The question becomes are you up to good or no good are you understood what is your purpose you got all of us nervous.
Detroit Hamtramck Highland no matter the order its always someone a quarter past the time to get their personal act together, its hot outside its cold outside the societal ills are always real in any season the mainstream has forgotten the exact reason but the symptom and result is on full display as we work worship and play it’s a good day for some and a bad day for others no matter the season its always a reason why society must move on the question becomes where do I fit in this love song or moody blues society has rules city hall to the desolate streets where do we meet
Were is my feet if I work hard will I get the leisure of relaxation in a city I was born in but Fastly forgetting my name. New Detroit Old Detroit the memories are alive as long as I strive for a dream that I turn into reality the Detroit Institute of Arts encompasses the vision of my dreams the past present and future my escape from the reality of my present impoverished hell the escape I’ve been striving for through my educational pursuits the opulence is proof that if you play the game or life right you can enjoy in this RIGHT of passage. Its inexcusable to be a SAVAGE
I will not begrudge the RICH uncivil behavior is beneath my character not so religious just a little more civil as I keep my head on a swivel through out my journeys in the streets of Detroit Highland Park and Hamtramck looking for that safe space and pleasant face, race is just an optical illusion as the lower classes and upper classes all are pondering for solutions what do we do what do we say, is it ok to just be ones natural self are we paranoid to take an active stand are we going alone with the plan what does it mean will time forget all of our collective efforts trying to clutch two fist full’ s of warm water life is that fleeing wasting our time beating each other up we’ve all had enough.
Every struggle is rough being poor being wealthy, the stress of not losing ground has taken its toll on all our collective health facts are were gifted with the same biology but are raised with different psychology playing different assigned roles by a director not of our own choosing the only thing were losing is our humanity and that is the definition of insanity time the other villain that steals our vision you only lose when you abandon your mission they told you in the old spiritual narrative “KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE” failure is only when you stop setbacks believe it or not is the best of all teachers these life lessons were begrudgingly accepted over-time it aged like fine wine NEW DETROIT OLD DETROIT
The vision of the future, the lessons of the past being thoroughly accepted has given us a little more class in our structure in our strata the dream of a higher apparatus from my education to dream job to Dan Gilberts vision of a fully functional Downtown Detroit we all want something we all need each other regardless of the label if we make up our mind to be one people then we all can be equal in our own little unique ways art in motion people places and situations keeping my creative edge sharp as a filet knife craving out my destiny in a place that seems so familiar but brand new at the same time. NEW DETROIT OLD DETROIT
gentrification is nothing more then an academic label not the boogie man just people with ideas that shake the current status quo we grow through pain that’s the only true way to gain the only thing that can be a demand is to make sure my merits are accounted for NEW DETROIT OLD DETROIT -WHERE DO I FIT IN
