Detroit Legacy, WSU Student Journalism Redefining The 313 and Beyond!

This story starts with President Claude Cauvin. Detroit Legacy, the newest voice in the WSU communications department, became an official WSU student journalism organization on Aug 5th, 2025. Just in time for the fall semester.
Having first met Cauvin at WSU’s New Student Convocation at Festifall on AUG 25. Cauvin, a third-year broadcast journalism student with a strong interest in sports journalism, stepped in to fill a need in the minority community by his own omission. Cauvin says that often African American, Latino, Muslim, and LGBTQ communities are overlooked and neglected when competitive journalism opportunities are given that can lead to career advancement and job placement. Cauvin says that the mission and vision that Detroit Legacy offers is to bridge all intersecting communities to represent diversity and inclusion.
Leading by example, young people are showing corporate America that the need for fresh vision globally in representing innovative ideas through cultural intelligence is what America’s vision is, particularly in Detroit. Detroit history is rich in numerous technological and cultural advancements. Standoutexamples are Motown Records and the Ford Motor Company. This is why Detroit Legacy’s proactive stance in highlighting the next chapters in this long legacy is giving new voices a platform to express a new vision.
